Quick answer

Beef protein isolate is protein extracted from beef, hydrolysed and filtered into a near fat-free powder with no milk protein in it. NXT Beef Isolate has 90g of protein per 100g and costs 74p per 25g of protein in the 1.8kg tub at £47.99 on Amazon UK, checked 2 October 2026, which is cheaper per gram of protein than most whey isolates. WheyWise read the labels on each brand's own site, and the one study comparing it with whey after training found similar lean mass gains.

Beef protein isolate is a protein powder made from beef instead of milk. It is the dairy-free, fat-free end of the protein shelf: NXT Beef Isolate lists 90g of protein per 100g with 0g of fat, checked on nxtnutrition.com on 3 October 2026.

What is beef protein isolate?

Beef protein isolate is beef protein that has been hydrolysed and filtered until almost nothing but protein is left. Bulk describes its Beef Protein Isolate 97 as hydrolysed beef protein from European beef, made through a refined extraction and filtration process. The result has close to no fat or carbohydrate and contains no milk protein. NXT sells its Beef Isolate in fruit flavours, and the Green Apple ingredients list is beef protein, citric acid, flavouring, sweeteners and colours.

Is beef protein isolate as good as whey?

For building muscle with training, the only head-to-head study found no difference. In Sharp et al., 2018, 41 men and women trained for 8 weeks and took 46g of protein after each session from beef protein isolate, hydrolysed chicken protein or whey concentrate. All three protein groups gained significant lean mass, strength rose with no differences between the groups, and the maltodextrin control group did not gain significant lean mass. It was a small study, about 10 people per group, so treat it as reassurance rather than proof of equality.

How much does beef protein isolate cost?

Beef protein isolate is cheaper per gram of protein than most whey isolate. Bulk Beef Protein Isolate 97 costs 72p per 25g of protein in the 1kg bag at £25.99, and NXT Beef Isolate 74p, against £1.53 for Myprotein Impact Whey Isolate in its 2.7kg bag.

Who should use beef protein isolate?

Beef protein isolate suits people who avoid dairy but still eat meat, and anyone who wants the most protein per scoop with almost no fat. Skip it if you are vegetarian, if you enjoy creamy milkshake-style protein, or if a plant protein already works for you. Frequently asked questions

Is NXT Beef Protein Isolate any good?

On paper it is one of the leanest protein powders sold in the UK. NXT Beef Isolate lists 90g of protein per 100g, 27g in a 30g scoop, with 0g of fat and 0.87g of carbohydrate per 100g, and NXT markets it as dairy free and zero sugar. It costs 74p per 25g of protein in the 1.8kg tub at £47.99 on Amazon UK, checked 2 October 2026. WheyWise has not taste-tested it.

Is beef protein isolate dairy free?

The protein itself contains no milk, and NXT markets its Beef Isolate as zero dairy. Check the allergen line, though: Bulk's Beef Protein Isolate 97 page says it may contain milk, checked 3 October 2026, so it is not a safe pick for a severe milk allergy.

Does beef protein isolate taste like beef?

It is sold in fruit and dessert flavours rather than savoury ones. NXT lists flavours such as Green Apple, Blue Raspberry and Mojito, and Bulk sells Banana Fudge, Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut and Unflavoured, checked 3 October 2026. WheyWise has not tasted either, so we cannot say how much of a beef note comes through.
