About WheyWise

5 questions

WheyWise is a free price comparison tool that tracks 1,516 protein powder products across 70 UK retailers. It was built as a personal side project to solve a simple problem: checking five different websites every time you want to buy protein is tedious. WheyWise does that automatically and puts everything on one page so you can compare on facts, not marketing.

We currently track 1,516 protein products across 70 UK retailers. This covers whey concentrate, whey isolate, vegan, casein, mass gainers, and plant blends from brands like MyProtein, Optimum Nutrition, Applied Nutrition, Bulk, The Protein Works, and many more. You can browse all of them on the compare page.

Prices change frequently, but you can always find the current cheapest on the compare page — it is sorted by best value by default. The deals page also highlights the best-value product for each protein type.

As a general guide, mass gainers tend to be cheapest per 100g because they contain carbohydrates alongside protein. For pure protein value, the Cost per 25g Protein column on the compare page is the best metric to use.

Yes, completely free. No account required, no ads, no sponsored product placements. Every product is ranked purely by price. The site is supported by small referral commissions when you click through to a retailer and make a purchase — at no extra cost to you.

WheyWise was built by one person as a side project. The motivation was straightforward: protein powder is expensive and prices vary wildly between retailers and over time. Rather than manually checking multiple websites every week, a script now does it automatically. The results are shared publicly because it seemed useful for anyone buying protein in the UK.

How prices are tracked

6 questions

Prices are checked weekly across all tracked retailers. Each product page shows when it was last checked, so you always know how fresh the data is. The deals page also shows freshness indicators like "Updated today" or "Updated 2h ago".

We read prices directly from each retailer's website using automated tools. The price you see on WheyWise is the same price listed on the retailer's product page at the time of the last check. We do not estimate, predict, or round prices.

Price per 100g is the standard way to compare products of different sizes. A 1kg bag at £20 and a 2.5kg bag at £45 look similar, but per 100g they are £2.00 and £1.80 — the larger bag is better value.

Every product on the compare page is normalised to price per 100g so the comparison is fair regardless of pack size.

This is the real cost of getting one scoop's worth of protein (25g). It factors in both the price and the protein concentration of the powder.

A cheaper powder with low protein content might actually cost more per scoop of protein than a pricier one with high protein content. Cost per 25g Protein reveals this and is the best single metric for comparing true value.

This metric is not applied to mass gainers, since their purpose is calories and carbohydrates, not just protein. You can see this column on the compare page.

The prices shown on the compare page are the listed retail prices. Where we have verified discount codes for a retailer, these are shown next to the product so you can apply them at checkout. The deals page shows prices with codes factored in and displays the discount codes prominently with one-click copy.

Nutritional data — protein per 100g, calories, carbohydrates, and fat — is read directly from each product's nutritional panel as published by the retailer. We use the per-100g values from the UK-standard nutritional label, which is a legal requirement on all food products sold in the UK. We never estimate or assume nutritional values. Where the data is not available, we show a dash rather than guessing.

Using the comparison tables

7 questions

Go to the compare page. By default, products are sorted by Cost per 25g Protein (ascending), which shows the best value first.

Use the filters on the left to narrow by protein type (whey, isolate, vegan, casein, mass gainer), size, brand, or retailer. The table updates instantly.

Green means the product is in the cheapest 25% for its category. Amber is mid-range. Red is in the most expensive 25%. This lets you spot good value at a glance without reading every number.

It shows how much protein and how many calories you get in one serving (scoop) of the product, based on the manufacturer's declared serving size. This is useful if you are tracking macros or counting calories.

Products that come in multiple flavours are grouped into one row to keep the table clean. Click the flavour chip (e.g. "5 flavours") to expand and see all available flavours with their individual prices and buy links. Each flavour links directly to that specific variant on the retailer's website.

Use the type cards at the top of the filter sidebar on the compare page. Click any type — Whey Concentrate, Whey Isolate, Vegan, Casein, or Mass Gainer — to filter the table. The product count on each card shows how many products match. You can also browse dedicated category pages like Whey Isolate or Vegan.

Yes. Use the search bar in the navigation bar at the top of every page. Type a product name or brand and matching products appear instantly. Clicking a result takes you directly to the product detail page with full pricing and nutritional information.

It removes products that are currently out of stock from the table. This is enabled by default so you only see products you can actually buy right now. Toggle it off if you want to see everything, including out-of-stock items.

04

Deals and discount codes

3 questions

The deals page shows the cheapest in-stock protein powder for each type (whey, isolate, vegan, casein, mass gainer), sorted by best value per 100g with any available discount codes applied. It highlights the single best deal as "Deal of the day" and shows how much cheaper each product is compared to the category average.

On the deals page, discount codes are shown at the top in the code strip and next to each deal card. Click the "Copy" button to copy the code, then click "Get Deal" to go to the retailer. Paste the code at checkout to apply the discount.

We only list codes from retailers we have a direct relationship with or codes that are publicly promoted on the retailer's own website. Codes are checked and updated regularly. If you find a code that does not work, please let us know via the contact form.

05

Product pages and price history

3 questions

Each product page shows the current price at every tracked retailer, a nutritional facts table (protein, calories, carbs, fat per 100g and per serving), a price history chart showing how the price has changed over time, and similar products you might want to consider. You can reach any product page by clicking a product name on the compare page or using the search bar.

The chart shows the price per 100g over time for each retailer stocking that product. You can switch between 30-day, 90-day, and all-time views. This helps you decide whether the current price is high, low, or average compared to recent history.

Nutritional data depends on the retailer publishing it on their product page. Some retailers include full nutritional panels, others do not. Where the data is not available from the retailer, we show a dash rather than guessing. Coverage improves with every price check as we add more data sources.

Requesting products and retailers

3 questions

Yes. Use the contact form to let us know which product or brand you would like added. Include the retailer website if possible.

We prioritise requests based on how many people ask for the same product and whether the retailer's website is compatible with our tracking tools.

Absolutely. If there is a UK retailer selling protein powder that we are not currently tracking, let us know via the contact form. We are always looking to expand coverage. The more retailers we track, the better the comparison is for everyone.

We may not have discovered it yet, or the brand's website may not be compatible with our automated price checking. Send us the brand name and website via the contact form and we will look into adding it.

07

Using WheyWise on mobile

1 question

Yes. The entire site is designed to work on phones and tablets. The compare table adapts to smaller screens, and the search bar in the navigation is the fastest way to find a product on mobile. Filters are accessible via a collapsible sidebar.

Accuracy and trust

4 questions

Prices are read directly from retailer websites and stored exactly as listed. We track 1,516 products across 70 retailers. If a price changes between our weekly checks, there may be a short delay before the new price appears. Every product page shows the date it was last checked so you always know how fresh the data is.

No. Product ranking is based entirely on price per 100g or cost per 25g of protein. There are no paid placements, no sponsored rankings, and no preferred retailers. Every product is treated equally.

WheyWise earns a small referral commission when you click a "Buy" or "Get Deal" link and make a purchase at the retailer. This costs you nothing extra — it is the same price whether you arrive from WheyWise or directly. This is the only revenue source. There are no ads, no subscriptions, and no paid features.

WheyWise uses basic analytics to understand which pages are visited. We do not collect personal data, do not require sign-up, and do not use tracking cookies for advertising. See our privacy policy for full details.
