Bulk Pure Whey Protein
This is the tub to buy if you are getting through 150g to 200g of protein a day and want the shake part of that to be boring and cheap.

How the numbers stack up against the price
70p buys 25g of protein here, which makes it the 4th cheapest of the 24 powders we have reviewed, behind Protein Works Vegan Protein 360 - PLATINUM Innovation at 54p, and 23p under the median.
It is a straight whey concentrate at 71g per 100g, so a 32g scoop lands 23g of protein, and two scoops a day out of a 2.5kg bag is roughly six weeks of training. The one thing to get straight before you order: "Pure" describes the fact that nothing else is blended in, not the filtration. Buyers do get caught by this and say so publicly. If you want the higher-protein, lower-lactose version, that is Pure Whey Isolate and it is a different product at a different price.

Cheapest in-stock listing at a partner retailer, for packs of 400g and over.
One protein, whey concentrate, and nothing blended in behind it. "Pure" is a claim about that, not about filtration: this is not an isolate and it is not marketed as one anywhere except in the name.
The product labeled pure whey gives the impression that it is whey isolate. However it is whey concentrate.
What the label gets right, and wrong
Strengths
- Sunflower lecithin, not soy, which is rare at this price
- A single protein source, so you know exactly what you are drinking
- Bulk manufactures most of its own range, and the standard price tends to hold without waiting for a code
- 2.5kg and 5kg bags for anyone shifting real volume
Watch-outs
- "Pure" is not isolate. At 71g per 100g this is a concentrate, and buyers regularly order it expecting otherwise
- Around 12g of lactose per 100g. If dairy sits badly on you mid-session, the isolate is the version to look at
- Salt is 1.0g per 100g, which is high for a whey and worth noting if you already eat salty
- The unflavoured tub is genuinely polarising, so buy the small bag first
Where to buy it
Ordered by cost per 25g of protein, because pack sizes and protein densities differ enough that a headline price on its own does not tell you which is better value.

What a scoop actually contains
Taken from the manufacturer’s published label. Source.
These are the flavoured figures. Almost all of the 15g of carbohydrate is lactose carried over from the concentrate, which is why the sugar line reads 12g even though no sugar appears in the ingredients. Flavours vary, so read the pack you are actually holding rather than this table.

A large flavour range plus an unflavoured tub. The unflavoured one divides people sharply, and both sides of that are quoted below.
Third-party testing
Certification is per programme and often per flavour or per batch, so a badge on one product does not carry across a brand’s whole range.
Bulk sells a separate product called Informed Whey Protein for batch-tested assurance, which is a strong signal that standard Pure Whey is not covered. If you are drug tested, buy the Informed tub rather than assuming this one is equivalent.
Made by
Sports Supplements Limited, trading as Bulk, Colchester, EssexBulk says it makes over 80% of its products in its own facilities, which is unusual for a UK direct-to-consumer brand and is the reason its standard price holds up without a discount code.
Taste and what buyers report
Quoted and linked, so you can read the full thread.
“The product labeled pure whey gives the impression that it is whey isolate. However it is whey concentrate.”
“Vanilla and strawberry pure whey protein has great taste and mixes really well. Great price too!”
“I ordered unflavoured whey which although isn't the best tasting flavour, is in my opinion a bit nicer than MyProtein.”
“Unflavoured Whey Protein Powder, when mixed with liquid is slimy, tastes like sour, gone-off milk plus salt.”
What the maker does not publish
- Bulk publishes one nutrition panel rather than one per flavour, so the carbohydrate and sugar figures on a chocolate tub and a vanilla tub are not necessarily identical to the table above.
- We found no batch-test certification for standard Pure Whey, and Bulk does not state on the product page whether it is tested to any third-party programme.
Questions buyers ask
The things people search for about Bulk Pure Whey Protein, answered from the label and the live partner prices rather than from the brand’s own copy.
Is Bulk Pure Whey Protein an isolate?
No. It is whey protein concentrate at 71g per 100g. The word "Pure" refers to it being a single unblended protein rather than to the level of filtration. Bulk sells Pure Whey Isolate separately, and that one is 81g per 100g.
How much protein is in a scoop of Bulk Pure Whey?
23g of protein in a 32g scoop on the flavoured version. If you are chasing 2g of protein per kg of bodyweight, that is roughly one scoop per 12kg you weigh, so most lifters are looking at two scoops a day alongside food.
Does Bulk Pure Whey contain soy?
The emulsifier is sunflower lecithin, not soy lecithin. It does contain milk. Myprotein Impact Whey, its closest rival on price, uses soy lecithin.
Is Bulk Pure Whey Informed Sport tested?
We found no evidence that it is. Bulk sells a separate Informed Whey Protein product for exactly that purpose, so if you are subject to testing, buy that one rather than assuming the standard tub carries the same assurance.
