How the Protein Finder chooses your matches
Most protein guides rank on a score somebody invented. We rank on arithmetic you can check. Every powder that survives your diet and budget answers gets measured on four things: what 25g of actual protein costs you, how much of the powder is protein rather than filler, how much protein lands in one scoop, and how many calories come along for the ride.
Your goal decides the weighting. Someone bulking wants calories per serving, which is the one thing a person cutting is trying to avoid. That is why the same shelf produces different winners depending on what you answered, and why each card tells you the single number that put it on top.
What we do not ask you
Plenty of protein quizzes ask whether you want third-party tested, organic, gluten-free or halal powder, then quietly return the same products regardless. We hold verified certification data on a handful of the products we track, so asking would be theatre. When that data is on file for enough of the range, the question will appear here. Until then we only ask what we can actually answer.
Protein Finder FAQs
How does the Protein Finder pick products?
It scores every in-stock powder that matches your answers on live retailer prices and the nutrition published on the label: cost per 25g of protein, protein density, protein per serving, and protein per calorie. Your goal decides how those are weighted. Each result tells you the single reason it won, so you can check the claim against the numbers on the card.
Do you rank products higher because you earn commission?
No. Commission never enters the score. We do show products from retailers we partner with first, because those links let us see which recommendations actually help people, but a partner product still has to earn its rank on price and nutrition against everything else in the set. If partner stock cannot fill three picks, we fill the rest from Amazon.
Which dietary filters can you apply?
Vegan or dairy-free, and low carb or keto. We only offer filters we can check against real data on every product. We do not ask about gluten-free, soy-free, halal or kosher, because we do not hold verified certification data for those and guessing would be worse than not asking.
How much protein powder is one serving?
Most manufacturers set a scoop at 25g to 35g, which delivers roughly 20g to 27g of protein depending on the powder. Where a brand publishes its own serving size we use it. Where it does not, we show a standard 25g scoop and say so on the card.
How often do the prices update?
We track prices across 90+ UK retailers and refresh them regularly, and the finder only ever shows in-stock products. Prices shown are exactly what the retailer lists, with no discount codes or basket estimates applied.
Is the Protein Finder free?
Yes. There is no signup and no email required. We earn a commission if you buy through some of the links, which is what pays for the price tracking.
